Alice Hum opened Palmers Green High School in 1905 with twelve pupils, and the founding motto "By Love Serve One Another" still frames its combination of academic and ethical education. The girls' day community serves pupils from age 4 to 16, but its current position requires a clear caveat: a January 2026 governors' notice proposed closure in August 2026. That remains a proposal rather than a completed change.
The senior curriculum covers English, mathematics, sciences, languages, humanities, computing, design and technology, drama, music, physical education, careers and PSHEE. At Key Stage 4, pupils take English, English Literature, mathematics, French or Spanish, biology, chemistry and physics, then choose three further subjects. Small-group teaching and opportunities to develop independent learning and oracy give the academic programme a close, discussion-led feel.
Music is especially prominent. Years 7 to 9 receive specialist tuition in performance, composition and critical listening, with senior orchestra, chamber choir, rock band and regular performances. Debating, creative writing, chess, drama, LAMDA, STEAM, coding and sport widen the week, while PE uses the Walker Ground and Southbury Leisure Centre for activities including netball, tennis, swimming and trampolining.
The age range ends at 16, without boarding or a sixth form. External Year 7 applicants take the ISEB 11+ examination and attend an interview after registration. In 2025, 71% of GCSE grades were 9 to 7, and regulatory standards were met in March 2025. Those established strengths should be read alongside the proposed August 2026 closure and the uncertainty that creates for future admissions.
