North London Grammar School

Bonitas, Scientia and Disciplina - goodness, knowledge and instruction - give North London Grammar School a compact statement of its educational character. The academic direction is balanced by close attention to individual pupils, creating a model in which high expectations and personal familiarity are meant to sit together. Day pupils and boarders share that framework from the early years through Sixth Form.

The senior curriculum covers English, mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics alongside history, geography, religious education, Spanish, art, drama, music, computer science, sport and PSHE. At Key Stage 4, English language and literature, mathematics and the three sciences are compulsory GCSE subjects, with options extending to business studies, languages, humanities, music, PE and psychology. Academic Olympiads, including the International Greenwich Olympiad, add a competitive stretch to subject study.

Applicants from Year 3 onwards complete CAT4, using verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial batteries. Three of those four batteries do not depend on English-language knowledge, a detail that matters for pupils entering from different educational backgrounds. Assessment is followed by interview, while international boarders have a separate route with guardianship arrangements and multilingual support.

The combination of a wide subject base, Olympiad activity and a boarding option gives the school a distinct international dimension without losing its emphasis on knowing pupils individually. North London Grammar serves a mixed intake and continues through its own Sixth Form, with both day and boarding places available.
