Overview

Music Stuff grew from a home-based partnership founded by Stephanie and Lenny Portersmith in 1999. It became a not-for-profit company in 2002, moved to the Cuthbert Centre in 2011 and registered as an independent secondary setting in 2012. Its current work across Openshaw, Burnage and Fallowfield remains rooted in that gradual, community-based development.

The 11-to-16 provision is for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, particularly social, emotional and mental-health needs. Every placement is linked to an Education, Health and Care Plan and follows local-authority consultation, with visits or transition meetings used where appropriate. There is no boarding or sixth form.

Learning is organised through personalised pathways: Foundations supports Key Stage 3, while Flourish, Reconnect and Aspire are specialist Key Stage 4 routes. Academic, social and emotional development are joined with therapeutic support through Thrive, PACE and relational communication techniques. Formal admission follows consultation and naming in Section I of the EHCP, making the route closely tied to each learner's plan.

Key points

Assessment route
Applications are made directly to the school. Check the school's own admissions pages for registration dates, entrance assessment stages, interviews, fees, scholarships and bursaries.
Places and demand
Published Year 7 place numbers and applicant-per-place data are not included in GIAS for this private-school seed profile.
Catchment
Private-school eligibility is not controlled by the local-authority grammar catchment model; check boarding, day-pupil, transport and any sibling or faith rules on the school site.
Results
Independent-school performance data is patchier in official releases, so GCSE and A-level comparisons should be checked against the school's published results.
