Overview

Lantern of Knowledge is shaped by an Islamic moral and spiritual purpose as well as academic progress. Tarbiyah, compassion, tolerance and positive contribution to society are part of its stated character. The selective boys' provision serves ages 10 to 16, has no Sixth Form and has no boarding.

The National Curriculum core is joined by Arabic, business studies, citizenship, computer science, English language and literature, geography, mathematics, PE and double-award science. Arabic is taught from Year 7 towards GCSE. Pupils take part in museum visits and weekly PE, while Qur'an Club and the London Lifesavers Schools Programme extend the rhythm beyond ordinary lessons.

Admission includes an application form, recent academic record, English assessment and interview. Priority is given in some cases to feeder-school pupils, siblings and children of staff, and applicants are asked to understand basic primary teachings of prayer. Places are normally offered after the November-to-January process, keeping the route focused on boys' secondary education through GCSE age.
