Kirkstone House was founded in 1967 around a simple principle: the individual counts. Pupils of different abilities remain together while teaching, support and pace are adjusted around the child. That flexible approach extends from age 4 to 18, with a day-school provision and no boarding.
At Key Stage 4, pupils study English language and literature, mathematics and science, then choose from GCSE, BTEC, Entry Level and Cambridge Technical courses. They can decide how many sciences or languages to take. Learning support follows EHCP recommendations, with learning-support assistants and the SENCO alongside sport, music, drama, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and the National Arts Award.
