King Edward VI founded King Edward's School in Birmingham in 1552. It now occupies a 50-acre Edgbaston site shared with King Edward VI High School for Girls, while remaining a boys-only day school from 11 to 18 with a Sixth Form and no boarding. That Birmingham identity distinguishes it from the similarly named schools in Bath and Witley.
The Sixth Form curriculum introduced from September 2025 spans literature and humanities, arts, social sciences, modern and classical languages, mathematics and sciences, with the EPQ alongside A levels. Beyond lessons, sport, performing arts, music, drama, clubs and societies, trips, service, leadership and the Combined Cadet Force give the week a broad practical rhythm.
Entry is normally at 11+ or 16+, with other year groups considered when places exist. Year 7 applicants sit school-written English and mathematics papers, provide a headteacher's reference and have non-academic activities considered; some are interviewed. Academic and music scholarships and means-tested Assisted Places are available. Sixth Form applicants are interviewed and receive offers conditional on final GCSE results.
