Overview

'Behave Well, Achieve Well and Become Great' gives Jamiatul Ummah its concise account of academic ambition, Islamic learning and self-discipline. Opened in 1997 for the Muslim community, it is a boys' 11-to-16 day route with neither boarding nor a sixth form. The experience is therefore concentrated on the secondary years and on preparation for the next stage.

English, mathematics, science, history, geography, computing, PE, art or music, citizenship and personal, social and health education form the core timetable. Arabic and Bengali or Urdu add language study, while Islamic Studies, Qur'an, Hadith, Fiqh, Seerah, Aqeeda, Hifz and spiritual assemblies shape the faith curriculum. Trips, other-faith engagement, leadership, careers, charity, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and clubs carry the work beyond classrooms.

Older pupils act as role models, speak publicly and take part in visits, while pupils with SEND receive additional support. Entry is direct, with up to 33 places per year group, a three-part mathematics, English and CAT4 examination, and an interview for candidates and parents. Further-education progression provides the destination for a route that ends after Year 11.
