Jamea Al Kauthar

Jamea Al Kauthar combines girls' secondary education, Islamic study and residential life in one Lancaster community. Opened in 1997, it runs from age 11 through sixth form and later provision, with a seven-year Alimiyyah programme, a two-year post-16 Sanatayn course and Qur'an memorisation alongside academic qualifications. Its structure makes religious study a continuing course of education, not an activity around the edge of the timetable.

Core National Curriculum subjects sit with ICT, art, religious studies, geography, history, PE, Arabic and Urdu. Pupils can move through GCSE, A-level, BTEC and NVQ routes. Separate houses, a madrasa and academic buildings give boarding its own infrastructure, so the residential and academic patterns reinforce each other across the week.

Applications are made directly. The current form is for applicants who will be 11 to 18 on the following 1 September and asks for identification plus recent or predicted SATs or GCSE results. That entry route sits within a wider 11 to 25 establishment range, reflecting the different courses available after the secondary years. The choice here turns on the fit between stage, course and residential commitment, not a generic application cycle.
