Hydesville Tower School

Hydesville Tower began in 1952, when Dorothy Bryan opened the school with 22 pupils. A hall and extra classroom followed in 1954, and the school expanded along Broadway North; the present route still runs from Nursery and Prep into the senior years to age 16. That origin gives the co-educational day school a clear sense of continuity rather than a recently assembled through-route.

Reading sits at the centre of the Prep curriculum, alongside English, mathematics, science, computing, French, music, art, PE, history, geography, PSHE, enrichment and reasoning. Years 7 to 9 study a broad subject base; in Years 10 and 11, English, mathematics and science are core with up to four options. Character Development is timetabled in Years 7 and 8, and Friday afternoons keep enrichment beyond examinations.

Drama, musical productions and sport bring a practical energy to the week. PSHE and careers lessons cover relationships, wellbeing, post-16 choices and work preparation. The six-step entry route moves from contact and visit through registration with the latest academic record, taster day, offer and completion; senior applicants may also take online numeracy, literacy and non-verbal reasoning assessment alongside handwritten creative writing.

Hydesville's identity therefore rests on a long local beginning, reading-led early education and a senior curriculum that makes room for character, performance and practical preparation as well as examinations.
