Holmwood House School

Holmwood House carries pupils from the early years through Year 11 on a 25-acre site in Lexden. The senior phase is organised around Years 7 to 9 and Years 10 to 11, giving pupils time to settle into secondary study before moving towards a tailored GCSE programme. The school is a day setting, with optional one-night stays for pupils in Years 4 to 9 rather than full boarding.

SPARK - Skills, Passion, Aspiration, Responsibility and Kindness - gives a shared language to teaching, pastoral care and leadership. Pupils can take on element roles, charity work, peer mentoring and prefect responsibilities as they grow in confidence. In Years 10 and 11, greater subject choice supports the move into GCSE study while keeping the school small enough for staff to know pupils well.

Sport, drama, music, clubs, outdoor learning, performances and concerts extend the school week. Those activities matter at Holmwood because they give pupils different ways to contribute and develop, alongside the academic programme. The optional overnight stays add a carefully bounded residential experience without changing the school's day-school character.

Senior applicants visit and register, complete online English and mathematics assessments and meet the Head. Results help with class placement, and strong performance may be considered for an academic scholarship before an offer and Transition Day. Holmwood's particular shape is therefore a focused 7-11 education with a clear pastoral framework and a small amount of residential experience for younger pupils.
