The Gregg School traces its history in Southampton to 1901 and now occupies Townhill Park House, where parkland, woodland, heritage buildings and gardens shape the setting. The co-educational day school serves pupils aged 11 to 16 and places emphasis on knowing students as individuals. Outdoor space is not ornamental here: it is used for environmental projects, horticulture, astronomy and regular learning.
The senior curriculum starts with English, mathematics and science, then adds languages, humanities, computing, creative subjects, personal and social development and physical education. From Year 9, pupils choose GCSE options from more than 20 subjects. Baseline assessments in Years 7 and 10 support a High Potential Learners programme offering extra challenge, reading, speakers and trips.
The wider programme includes bouldering, kayaking and horse riding alongside music, drama, art, 3D design and food and nutrition. Field visits, subject trips, arboretum work and woodland learning connect classroom study with the grounds. There is no boarding provision, so these activities form part of a day-school experience rather than a residential programme.
Year 7 is the main senior entry point, with an entrance assessment in Year 6; places in Years 7 to 10 can also be considered during the school year. Assessment results, references and feedback from meetings or visits contribute to the decision, which is made by the headteacher. Applications are handled directly by the registrar.
