At a glance
Greater Manchester Independent School North is a small co-educational setting for pupils aged 11 to 18 with particular and sometimes complex needs. Its broad curriculum gives particular weight to numeracy, literacy and confidence, while specialist teachers and support staff work together around pupils who need an inclusive SEMH/SEN environment. The North centre currently caters for 40 pupils.
Learning is organised by stage as well as age. Years 7 and 8 can follow Catch-up and Diagnose strands to identify and address gaps in foundational learning. Years 9 to 11 may move into Skills for Life, built around practical real-world skills, literacy, numeracy and personal and social development. These strands sit alongside standard and Plus KS3 and KS4 routes.
All pupils have access to English, maths and science, with GCSEs, Functional Skills and BTECs among the qualification routes. The wider programme includes the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, vocational activities and wellbeing work. The small-school model is therefore tied to both academic progress and the practical skills needed beyond the classroom.
As at March 2026, all relevant standards were met. Follow-up points include keeping an independent avenue in the complaints process, helping pupils share ideas confidently and keeping the designated safeguarding lead within senior leadership. Places are arranged with local authorities that place pupils at the setting.
