Egerton-Rothesay School

Egerton-Rothesay is built for pupils who need a smaller, more specialist route through secondary education and the years beyond. Its co-educational setting supports ages 6 to 19, with staff working around communication needs, autism, ADHD, specific learning difficulties and social or emotional needs. Small classes make room for both academic progress and the gradual development of independence.

The curriculum remains broadly connected to mainstream subjects while adapting to individual profiles. Senior pupils study English, mathematics, science, humanities, Spanish, IT, drama, music, art, food technology and PE. At Key Stage 4, routes can include GCSE, BTEC, ASDAN and functional skills; the sixth form turns towards employment, independent living, community and health.

Specialists work alongside teachers, including speech and language and occupational therapists, literacy and mathematics staff, and social and emotional support. Rowan Base provides smaller groups and higher adult support for Years 7 to 11, while accredited pathways and regular reviews help shape the next stage for each pupil.

Admissions begin with school reports, professional reports, SEN support plans and any EHCP, followed by a meeting and usually a three-day visit. The team considers whether the school can meet the child's needs, with funding potentially coming from families or local authorities. The latest specialist-school inspection confirmed the relevant standards met.
