Duke of Kent School began in 1976 when the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund brought Vanbrugh Castle School and Woolpit together. It became fully co-educational in 1978, expanded to GCSE in 2009 and now serves ages 3 to 16 at Ewhurst, near Cranleigh. Kindness, respect, effort and responsibility are the values that frame the day school's work.
The curriculum is broad and carefully planned, with one-to-one Chromebooks from Years 5 to 11 alongside science laboratories and creative spaces. There is no Sixth Form or boarding provision. The teaching day for Prep and Senior pupils ends at 4.45pm, after which pupils may leave or stay for independent study, homework and activities.
Sports fixtures, music, drama and outdoor learning sit alongside classroom work. A wildlife-focused programme, refurbished science laboratories and an Eco-Schools Green Flag add practical detail to the campus, keeping learning connected to the world beyond lessons.
Key entry points are Reception, Year 3 and Year 7. Year 3 applicants complete GL English and mathematics assessments and an interview during a visit day; Years 4 to 6 and Senior School applicants use CAT4 assessment and interview. Waiting lists operate in registration order, making the timing of registration part of the admissions route.
