Cranmore's Catholic identity is part of a wider Effingham pathway that links early years, prep and senior education. Founded in 1968 by Canon Peter Freed, the school admits girls and boys from ages 2 to 6, then provides boys' Prep and Senior education through to 16 at West Horsley. St Teresa's and Manor House extend the trust's provision for different ages and stages, including a co-educational Sixth Form.
Academic work is balanced with science and technology, music, sport, Forest School and creative arts. The 25-acre site includes dedicated teaching buildings, an indoor pool and ICT facilities, while the school's Christian community welcomes families of other beliefs. The senior phase takes boys through GCSE study, with a later co-educational Sixth Form route available through St Teresa's.
The group's structure creates opportunities beyond one campus. Boys and girls share the younger stages, boys normally enter Cranmore Senior at 11 or 13, and the Effingham schools provide continuity through the wider pathway. Music, sport, outdoor learning and creative work therefore sit alongside the formal academic programme.
Applications are managed directly and vary by age. Prep entry includes welcome and assessment mornings; at 11+, boys take the ISEB Common Pre-Tests and attend a day involving creative writing, activities and an informal group interview. Later entry uses English and mathematics assessments, and scholarship and means-tested bursary support are available.
