The British Muslim School

An explicitly Islamic boys' education runs through The British Muslim School's 11 to 16 day and boarding model in West Bromwich. Opened in 2009, it joins a mainstream secondary curriculum with Islamic studies and a daily rhythm shaped by religious practice, communal rules and residential care. Admission is for boys who can adhere to that ethos.

GCSE preparation is the academic centre of gravity. English combines reading, writing, speaking and listening with creative and analytical work, while mathematics is treated as a way of thinking rather than a list of isolated techniques. Additional English and literacy support runs across subjects for pupils whose academic English needs strengthening.

Boarding adds supervised study, sport and games, recreation, scheduled Islamic programmes and welfare oversight to the school day. The boarding manager carries responsibility for academic progress and care, so residential life is part of the educational structure rather than a separate extra.

Applications for September can be made from early November of the previous year. Every applicant sits an internally devised entrance examination, with an interview possible and satisfactory academic and social reports required from the current school. There is no sixth form, so the route ends with the school's GCSE-stage provision.
