Break Through School

Break Through School is built around re-engagement for learners whose needs have not been met in mainstream education. Across two sites in Belvedere, staff establish trust, safety and workable routines before reconnecting pupils with learning. The provision is particularly relevant to social, emotional and mental-health needs, communication difficulties and other additional needs.

Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 each have a central curriculum addressing barriers to learning. English, mathematics and computing form the core, with BTEC qualifications, humanities, art, philosophy and ICT alongside them. Programmes are personalised and reviewed regularly, with routes towards further education, employment or reintegration into mainstream education.

Reading is assessed on entry, leading to targeted work in phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. Numeracy, literacy, emotional learning and transition support sit within the central curriculum, while Speech and Language work and counselling surround teaching. EHCP outcomes can inform planning, but an EHCP is not required for support.

Entry can happen during the year through the school's admissions route. Learners with additional needs and an EHCP are prioritised, while others may need the Education, Health and Care Assessment Request process. A planned transition and personalised assessment establish whether the provision can meet the learner's needs, making the referral conversation as important as the age or key stage.
