Bere Clinic School

Bere Clinic School is the education provision within Bere Clinic, an Elysium Children and Education setting for young people receiving treatment for eating disorders. Its purpose is to minimise disruption to in-patient education while giving pupils a safe place to continue learning. The school’s stated invitation is to invest in themselves, invest in others and invest in their future.

The curriculum is planned with each young person and their key teacher after admission to hospital. Staff seek home-school curriculum maps, prior attainment and schemes of work, then use that information to identify gaps and plan an individual sequence. Timing and content remain flexible around wellbeing and appointments.

Bere Clinic provides a core curriculum with specialist teaching in English, mathematics, science and PSHE, alongside humanities and art. Its policy describes linguistic, mathematical, scientific, technological, human and social, physical, aesthetic and creative education. Key Stage 3 and GCSE options are adjusted to pupil needs, while home-school liaison helps align work with peers.

Admissions differ from a conventional fee-paying school. A young person may be admitted at any point in the year with local-authority agreement or through a private arrangement, including NHS England or parents. The hospital’s Responsible Clinician must confirm that the young person is medically able to access the school, and attendance can change with clinical need, including bed rest.
