The Beech House School

The Beech House School is built around education for young people whose social, emotional and mental health needs have been shaped by adversity. It serves ages 10 to 18, particularly looked-after young people, and works closely with The Beech House residential homes. The setting is wholly owned by Cameron & Cooper Limited, with education and care planned as connected parts of a specialist placement.

A therapeutic, trauma-informed approach underpins individually tailored timetables. The curriculum is informed by the National Curriculum but adapted to each pupil's developmental, emotional and educational needs, with small-group teaching and a modified environment. Close work with the associated homes allows learning, care and emotional wellbeing to be considered together.

Qualification routes are selected around the individual rather than imposed as a single sequence. Options include Functional Skills in English and mathematics, GCSE English language, English literature, mathematics, double-award science, sociology and psychology, vocational qualifications and AQA Unit Awards. Careers and work-related learning, planned transitions and support towards college courses are part of the offer for some pupils aged 16 or over.

Admission is a placement process coordinated between the school, residential home, Virtual School and social-work team. Eligibility includes age, looked-after status, adverse childhood experiences and an inability to access a mainstream curriculum, including in modified form. A place depends on whether the setting can meet the young person's needs, so this is a carefully matched specialist provision rather than a general entrance-test route.
