Bahr Academy

Bahr Academy began with a small intake in 2007 and has developed into a girls' independent secondary school where academic study sits alongside character, spirituality, leadership and service. It serves pupils aged 11 to 16 in Newcastle upon Tyne, with no boarding and no sixth form. In April 2026, it had 29 pupils against a capacity of 30, underlining the small scale of the setting.

Its curriculum places National Curriculum subjects beside Urdu, Arabic and Islamic studies. At Key Stage 3, pupils study English, mathematics, science, history, PE, PSHE and citizenship, ICT, art and music; Key Stage 4 includes English language and literature, mathematics, biology, chemistry, Urdu, history and citizenship, with ECDL and Arabic shown as options. Islamic studies covers beliefs, jurisprudence, seerah and adab. Historic wording about GCSE numbers means the exact offer for a new cohort still needs checking.

Seminars, lectures and community events sit alongside personalised learning plans and monitoring of attendance and behaviour. A proposed move of the girls' provision to Benwell Lane was assessed in April 2026, separately from the July 2025 overall outcome of Requires Improvement. The later assessment concerned the premises change, so the two contexts should not be conflated.
