Four resident pupils began Al Jamiah Al Islamiyyah at Bromley Cross in 1993. Growth led to the 2006 move to its Deane-area campus, where boarding and commuting pupils follow an Islamic residential model. Qur'anic study, prayer, communal meals and supervised work shape the day around academic qualifications.
Hifz and Alim are the specialist religious pathways. Hifz centres on Qur'an memorisation, tajweed, daily assessment and six-weekly progress reviews; Alim ranges across Arabic language and literature, Islamic beliefs, jurisprudence, hadith, tafsir, seerah and modes of Qur'anic recitation. These courses are substantial strands of study in their own right.
Alongside them, pupils can take up to ten Key Stage 3 subjects and GCSE courses including English, mathematics, science, religious studies, information technology, history and Urdu. The sixth-form route includes A levels in religious studies, Urdu and Arabic, GCSE resits, and vocational courses taught with a partner college. The 11 to 25 age range reflects the breadth of this academic and theological offer.
Islamic and Hifz lessons take the morning, secular lessons the afternoon, and supervised study, prayer and meals continue into the evening. Entry requires an application, supporting school and madrasah records, and an interview; successful applicants begin with a one-year trial. It is a combined academic, theological and residential route rather than a conventional day-school experience.
