At a glance
Al-Burhan Grammar School began in September 2002 with eight pupils across Years 7 to 9 and moved to its present Spring Road site in January 2013. The academically selective girls' school, run by the non-profit Al-Burhan Foundation, now occupies four interconnected buildings around a central courtyard with a science laboratory, ICT room, library, art room, prayer space and subject classrooms.
National Curriculum study is joined to an extended Islamic programme. Key Stage 3 includes English, mathematics, science, history, computing, art, religious studies, physical education, PSHE, Arabic, Urdu, Living Islam and Quranic studies. At Key Stage 4, all pupils take English language and literature, mathematics, religious studies, science and a language, with art and computer science among the options. Dedicated Islamic lessons and tarbiyyah connect academic work to character and personal development.
Assemblies, enrichment days, visits, workshops and clubs provide a wider setting, with form captains, school council representatives and house leaders taking responsibility. Entry is direct and a normal-school-day visit can be arranged before application. Selective entry, a girls-only setting and Islamic study integrated into the curriculum define the educational model.

Entrance assessment
Selection is primarily based on the English and Maths entrance assessment.
Borderline assessment interview
Borderline applicants and their parents may be invited to meet the headteacher and another teacher.
Current-school information
The latest school report and, where requested, a reference from the current school form part of the decision.
Sibling attendance
A sister's attendance may be considered, but it does not override an entrance-test result that is too low.
Admissions panel decision
A teacher panel including the headteacher decides whether to offer a place, add the applicant to the waiting list or decline the application.
Year 7 applicants sit school-set English and Mathematics papers lasting one hour each. In-year applicants follow the same route, with an additional Science paper for Years 8 and 9 and potentially longer papers for older pupils. A borderline-result interview may follow, but no numeric pass mark, weighting or standardisation method is published.
