Al-Ashraf opened in Gloucester in 1994 with two classes and 36 pupils, then known as Gloucestershire Islamic Secondary School for Girls. Its small beginnings still help explain the present model: a non-selective girls' school for Years 7 to 11 where National Curriculum subjects share time with sustained Islamic studies and class-based teaching.
Key Stage 3 includes mathematics, English, science, geography, history, computer science, religious education, citizenship, art, food technology, physical education and Urdu. GCSE study retains the core subjects and adds options such as history, business studies, religious education and Urdu. Islamiat covers Aqaa'id, fiqh, hadith, Islamic history, Quran and tafseer, with feedback, unit assessments and end-of-year examinations setting the main assessment rhythm.
PSHE, citizenship and relationships education, careers guidance, themed assemblies and local visits support personal development. Eco Club projects, community volunteering and Science Week STEM workshops add activity beyond lessons. The prospectus, admissions policy, application form and fees are provided directly by the school for the intended year of entry.

Year 7 applications open on or after the announced open evening, with up to 22 places available. Submit the school form with a birth certificate copy and the £75 registration fee. This is a non-selective route, and no separate oversubscription priority order is available.
Independent schools do not use the local-authority grammar-school catchment model; check the school site for boarding, transport and eligibility rules.
Use the official admissions policy for the current priority order and eligibility rules.
Al-Ashraf is non-selective and has no universal entrance examination. Pupils needing EAL support receive an individual English-language assessment after joining to plan teaching and support; it is not used to rank applicants.
